October 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

In an effort to propagate gender sensitivity in media, the Mumbai-based NGO Population First has called for entries for the seventh edition of the Laadli Media Advertising Awards for Gender Sensitivity 2014-2015 for southern region to be held in Chennai.

The forum is open for media professionals from Andaman and Nicobar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshwadeep, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu. The entries should be published or broadcast between July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015 in English, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages. “The award presentation ceremony for the southern region will be held in January next year. Last year, the participation level from Andhra Pradesh has been extremely poor. Though the content of the entries has been evolved over the years, there is a scope for more improvement in terms of the presentation,” said A.L. Sharada, director of Population First, at a press conference held here on Saturday.

She said that the awards were instituted to recognise the consistent efforts taken by those to fight against gender discrimination. Those working in print, electronic media (TV, radio and web) and advertising agencies were eligible to participate.

“News articles published or broadcast from a gender perspective, breaking gender stereotypes will be considered for the awards. The focus is not only to recognise those who highlight women issues but also try to bring out rare problems faced by men,” Ms. Sharada said. Multiple entries in more than one category are allowed. The winners will be selected by a jury consisting of eminent personalities from media and other sectors. The last date for entries is November 15. Filled in entries should be sent to Population First, Shetty House, 3{+r}{+d}Floor, 101, MG Road, Fort, Mumbai-400 001. For entry forms and further details, log on to www.populationfirst.org.
