Efforts being made to reopen the Sirpur Paper Mills (SPM) in Kagaznagar town of Adilabad district gained momentum as the current management is reported to have raised no objection even if the factory is sold to any interested buyer. The representatives of SPM management made their stand clear at a meeting with Industry Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao and top officials in Hyderabad on Thursday.
According to sources, the representatives said the mill was closed owing to fund crunch and the situation continues to be so. The Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI) is looking into the matter of closure of the SPM and the government can take any action after the IDBI’s decision, the representatives are understood to have told the Minister.
Meanwhile, news of the development became the cause of some happiness among the suffering workers of the SPM at Kagaznagar. “It is not the sanction of 17 new industries but the reopening of SPM which will earn Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao the blessings of over 3,000 workers and their families,” observed Koneru Konappa, local MLA.
