The Telangana government is collecting details of illegal immigrants from the State in United Arab Emirates from the Indian Consulate in Dubai, Embassy in Abu Dhabi and people of Telangana staying in that country.

The purpose of collecting the details was to appeal to the immigrants to utilise the facility of amnesty declared by the government of UAE from August 1 to September 30, according to a press release of NRI Affairs Minister K.T. Rama Rao.

The UAE government had allowed Indian immigrants in UAE, who are staying illegally, to regularise their stay and those who wished to leave the country and return to India may get exit permit without ban if they had valid passports. Those who entered UAE illegally without any documents or visa will get exit clearance with two-year ban. They can re-enter UAE after two years. The amnesty was also applicable to those who had passports but they expired, those who lost passports or detained by sponsors and those who were absconding.
