The long-cherished dream of daily water supply to the people of Karimnagar is all set to fulfil very soon with the new government getting ready to lay the foundation stone for the project on July 3 in the town.
Immediately, after the new elected body assumes charge of the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar, Minister for Finance Etela Rajender, Karimnagar MP, B Vinod Kumar, local legislator Gangula Kamalakar, new Mayor S Ravinder Singh and others would lay foundation stone for the daily water supply scheme on July 3 evening.
Presently, the municipal authorities are supplying water on alternate days to 35,000 and odd tap connections in the town when there are around 65,000 households in the town.
The authorities have been supplying 27 million litres per day (MLD) of water in the town. For the daily water supply, the authorities have to supply 47 MLD. In order to provide daily water supply of 47 MLD, the authorities have called for tenders for the execution of works at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore for laying additional pipelines from the Lower Manair Dam reservoir to the filter-bed and to the overhead tanks. Talking to “The Hindu” on Tuesday, Karimnagar legislator Gangula Kamalakar said that they would provide daily water supply to the people of Karimnagar regularly from Dasara onwards after the completion of laying new pipe lines within two months.
s“After providing daily water supply for two to three years, they would take measures for providing 24-hour water supply to the people by fixing the meters to the taps,” he said. He also said that they would take all measures to beautify the town on all fronts by removing encroachments and convert Karimnagar into a clean city.
