Heavy rains were lashing in various parts of integrated Karimnagar district on Friday following the impact of the cyclone ‘Daye’, inundating several low-lying areas.

Following the incessant rains, the Sripada Yellampalli project (SYP) continues to recieve heavy inflows and authorities have lifted six floodgates up to a height of half meter to release 16,830 cusecs of flood water into the Godavari river.

The SYP was receiving 12,870 cusecs of water following the rains in its catchment areas. The project has 19.9253 tmcs of water against its capacity of 20.175 tmcs.

Coal production affected

The production had come to a grinding halt in the three Open Cast Projects of the Singareni collieries in the Ramagundam coal belt region following the inundation of mines due to rains.

The rains have also caused extensive damage to the cotton crop, which was ready plucking and the paddy crop at seeding stage.

In Karimnagar town, the rains have disrupted the normal life forcing the people to remain indoors since Friday morning. The overflowing storm water drains inundated low-lying areas with flood waters.
