The police has denied permission to Congress MP from Bhongir Komatireddy Venkat Reddy to take up a padayatra from Brahmana Vellemla reservoir at Narketpalli in Nalgonda district to Hyderabad from Monday to Thursday.
The padayatra with about 5,000 of Mr. Reddy’s supporters was proposed demanding early completion of Udaya Samudram Brahmana Vellemla Lift Irrigation Project.
While denying permission, Nalgonda Superintendent of Police A.V. Ranganath said in his order that the route proposed was one of the busiest national highways in the country. Also, Ganesh idols from Hyderabad would be transported to Nalgonda and other districts during the dates. The police personnel would be busy in bandobust duties for Ganesh festival.
The SP highlighted various violations by Mr. Reddy when permission was granted to him for mobilisation of crowds. The Congress leaders posted provocative messages about the yatra on the Facebook account of Nalgonda Assembly constituency.
Reacting to the denial of permission, Mr. Reddy said he will move the court against curbs on his freedom. He will go ahead with the yatra with permission from the High Court. He also said he did not receive any order so far. The suppression of his programme showed the autocratic rule of the government.
