Demanding supply of Manjeera water to households in the district headquarters, Congress cadre led by former MLA T. Jayaprakash Reddy held rally and dharna on Monday.

Mr. Jayaparakash Reddy held dharna before the Collectorate, protesting over lack of provision for supplying drinking water in the town. Large number of party members commenced the rally with empty plastic pots, from his residence to the municipal office. They were arrested by the police on the way to the main road. They alleged that water from Singur was being diverted on the Chief Minister’s instructions.

Later speaking to media, Mr. Jayaprakash Reddy alleged that the water from Singur was diverted at the cost of drinking water to the district headquarters. “This situation was created by the ruling party. The TRS MLAs failed to question the decision of the govt. when the water was diverted. Bring back the water within 15 days,” he said, calling for bandh on Tuesday against MLA Chinta Prabhakar and Irrigation Minister Harish Rao.

Meanwhile, Mr. Prabhakar said there was no water crisis as alleged by Congress and water from Mission Bhagiratha is being pumped from Monday onwards.
