District Congress party leaders organised a dharna in front of the Collectorate demanding Union Government protection of rights of the SCs and STs under the SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act, here on Monday.

District Congress Committee president V. Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, former deputy chief minister C. Damodar Rajanarasimha, former minister Ch. Muthyam Reddy, former whip T. Jayaprakash Reddy and others participated in the agitation.

Addressing a gathering, Ms. Sunitha alleged that the government had been trying to dilute the Act, which would not be tolerated. She said that the party would stand by Dalits and make efforts to protect their rights at any cost.
