Coal production partially hit due to miners’ strike

Rallies and protest demonstrations marked the second day of the coal miners’ nationwide strike in the Kothagudem region of the Singareni Collieries on Wednesday. The strike partially hit the coal production in various coal mines across the region.

According to sources, all the 11 areas of the SCCL spread across four districts including Khammam produced 1.72 lakh tonnes as against the daily average production of 2.16 lakh tonnes on the first day of the strike on Tuesday. In all, over 17,000 workers reportedly abstained from work for the second consecutive day in all the regions of the company.

Meanwhile, the members of the JAC of trade unions, barring the Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham (SCCL’s recognised union), staged a demonstration near two town police station in Kothagudem resenting the alleged arrest of several JAC leaders by the police.

Special Correspondent adds: There was no response to the strike call given by the national trade unions in the SCCL Ramagundam coal belt region in the district on Wednesday.

Over 80 per cent of the coal miners attended work in the Ramagundam coal belt region.
