The ongoing shooting of an upcoming Telugu movie starring actor Vijay Devarakonda in the lead role in the coal belt region has not only generated much enthusiasm among film aficionados but also brought into spotlight the potential of coal towns to host film shootings.

Some of the important scenes of the upcoming movie were shot at JK-OC stores and other locations in Yellandu town, considered the birthplace of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), from dawn to dusk on Tuesday.

Mr. Vijay, who essayed versatile roles in several acclaimed movies, some of which had become box-office hits, is playing a powerful role in the new film. The upcoming movie is being directed by a well-known Telugu filmmaker.

A major episode of the movie will be shot at the coal handling plant and residential colonies of coal workers in and around Kothagudem in the next few days, sources said.

Kothagudem coal belt region has the potential to become a preferred destination for shooting of feature films and documentaries mainly on industry and labour oriented themes, feel film aficionados of the coal town.

The picturesque Pragati Vanam park at Rudrampur near Kothagudem has already hosted shooting of several short films and documentaries.

The vast coal belt region has a few coal mines and bungalows dating back to British era showcasing the rich heritage of the decades-old coal mining company, considered growth engine of Telangana.
