As a prelude to the ensuing Godavari Pushkaralu at the Dharmapuri temple on the shores of Godavari, the Dharmapuri police took up a massive cleanliness drive of the temple town as part of Swachh Bharat programme on Monday.
The police along with the locals, including students and womenfolk participated in the massive cleanliness drive of the temple.
Jagtial DSP Rajendra Prasad, Dharmapuri CI Venkataramana, Jagtial town CI Karunakar and all the Sub-Inspectors of the sub-division and others participated in the noble cause along with several others.
The police deployed 55 tractors, five JCBs and six dozers for the cleanliness and removal of garbage.
The police instead of wielding lathies carried broomsticks and cleaned the premises. They also entered the shores of the river and cleaned the garbage and shrubs.
Jagtial DSP Rajendra Prasad said that they took up cleanliness drive as prelude to the ensuing Godavari pushkaralu. “We want to see the temple was clean and tidy for the benefit of the pilgrims visiting the temple,” he said.
Dharmapuri Inspector Venkataramana said that they would continue the cleanliness drive regularly at least once in a month and beautify the town.
He said that they were also planning to motivate the locals to dump the garbage only in the dustbins and proper disposal of plastic.
