The weekend that passed by started on a frustrating note for many IT employees working in Madhapur, Hi-Tec City and Gachibowli, due to serpentine traffic jams that started since Friday evening.

Complaints galore

Most of the complaints on social media were from people who were caught in the traffic gridlock on the IT corridor.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner M. Dana Kishore said that water overflowed on to roads as construction waste material blocked most of the drains.

Dana Kishore and zonal commissioner Harichandana Dasari held a review meeting with officials from the engineering section and Electricity Department on issues related to traffic, Strategic Road Development Project (SRDP), and obstructions to free flow of rain water in the city, on Sunday.

Some of the issues that were discussed were water stagnation at Shilparamam, data cables in storm water drains obstructing free flow of water, and electrical poles coming in the way of traffic.

Mr. Dana Kishore instructed officials to remove all cables as they were also obstructing free flow of water and enlarge vents at footpaths, whereever possible, so that water recedes quickly.

Officials directed

Directions were given to officials to ensure sand and metal do not get accumulated at sites where SRDP works are going on, and remove barriers for free flow of water. Sign boards need to be placed to warn commuters and measures have to be taken for the safety of workers, he said.

The footpath near TCS would be removed, storm water that entered into Khagajiguda lake would be cleared and nala would be de-silted, he added.

Meanwhile, officials visited some parts of the city along with JNTU professor Laxman Rao. He suggested that excess water could be diverted into open spaces by making percolation tanks near Shilparamam, Nectar Gardens and Durgam Cheruvu. Besides, traffic signals would be installed at some junctions and road crossing system improved.

The GHMC commissioner asked all officials to coordinate and complete all works on a war-footing and submit the Action Taken Report soon.
