Rajath Kumar.

Rarely do we see bureaucrats admitting the lapses in the system and apologising to the people and Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar is one among them.

The CEO has openly expressed concern over the spree of complaints on the deleted/missing votes and said he tendered his apologies for the people who missed out the opportunity to cast their votes. The election authority has issued several reminders to the voters to check whether their names were present in the voters’ lists and launched campaign like “check your vote” in the run up to the election.

“Names went missing after the intensive revision of electoral rolls in 2015. There have been no applications in Form 6 from these voters ever since in spite of several reminders,” he lamented asserting that electors can at least register their names during the next phase of the summary revision starting December 26.

Congress ties itself in knots

The scam-hit AgriGold investors, agents and welfare associations have declared their support to Congress-led People’s Front after the party’s State president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that the Congress will solve the problem within six months of its coming to power.

Wonder how the Congress in Telangana will resolve the crisis when the case is totally dealt by Andhra Pradesh government.

Everything to do with the case -- police investigation, attachment of properties of the company, arrest of the prime accused, politics over the issue and even protests by victims are all happening in Andhra Pradesh. Even the High Court is monitoring the initiatives of AP government.

‘Emotional day’ lies forgotten

December 9 is a historic and an emotional day for people of Telangana as it was on the midnight of that day in 2009 that the first announcement of a separate State was made by the then Home Minister P. Chidambaram in New Delhi.

Celebrations broke out across the State and also in other States where Telangana supporters were eagerly waiting. The announcement, it is said, was also made coinciding with the birthday of the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Since then it has been a ritual to celebrate the day. However, this year none of the political parties or organisations made an effort to remember the day. Is history sometimes forgotten for political reasons?
