The Congress party on Sunday demanded that the government modify its orders related to the capacity of the proposed multipurpose project at Kupti in Neredigonda mandal of Adilabad district.

AICC member Naresh Jadhav and former District Congress Committee president C. Ramchander Reddy wanted the government to enhance the proposed capacity from 5.3 tmcft to 6.5 tmcft so that some water from the project it could also irrigate Neredigonda, Boath and Bazarhatnoor mandals.

Addressing a press conference, All India Congress Committee member Naresh Jadhav and former District Congress Committee president C. Ramchander Reddy said the government has designed Kupti project as a balancing reservoir for Kadem dam in Nirmal district. It is designed to use 3.5 tmcft of water from Kupti to stabilise Kadem while the remaining 2 tmcft will be dead storage.

“What about the mandals in Adilabad district, the villages which will go under submergence once Kupti is constructed but will remain parched. Only enhancement of the capacity to 6.5 tmcft is the solution,” Mr. Jadhav pointed out.
