Chain-snatching gang busted

The Kamareddi police arrested an inter-State chain-snatching and vehicle lifting gang and recovered one DCM van, a motorbike, one country-made pistol, cartridges and a gold nuptial cord weighing 15 grams.

The police, who were conducting vehicle-checking, stumbled upon them when they were snatching the chain from a woman while riding the bike on Thursday. The arrested were identified as Deepak, 23, of Samli district in Uttar Pradesh and Hukum Singh, 23, of Sastri Park area in New Delhi. Other accomplices Jai Prakash alias Bittu and Sujin Rathi are on the run. Presenting the arrested persons before media persons here, Superintendent of Police S. Chandrashekar Reddy said that the four members belonging to UP and New Delhi had formed a gang and indulged in chain-snatching and other property offences in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. The SP said that they came to Kamareddi in September. Additional SP R. Prathap Reddy, Deputy SP Bhaskar, Circle Inspector of Police S. Srinivas Rao and CI of Police (CCS) Vithal Reddy were present.
