A meeting of the Cabinet, presided over by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, on Sunday afternoon approved the proposal to create seven zones and two multi-zones of the 31 districts in the State.
Mr. Rao left for New Delhi immediately after the meeting to take up with Prime Minister Narendra Modi the amendment of the Presidential Order called The Andhra Pradesh Public Employment (Organisation of Local Cadres and Regulation of Direct Recruitment) Order, 1975, which provides for organisation of local cadres to all non-gazetted categories under the government and also specified gazetted cadres. It was issued on the basis of 32nd constitutional amendment, inserting Articles 371 D and E. Mr. Rao is expected to return on Tuesday.
A release after the meeting said the Cabinet also approved life insurance coverage for all farmers through Life Insurance Corporation of India. The Cabinet unanimously approved the twin decisions after an elaborate discussion. It was also attended by leaders of employees’ unions G. Deviprasad Rao, K. Ravinder Reddy and V. Srinivas Goud, MLA.
Retirement age
A significant decision at the meeting was to raise the retirement age for professors in teaching hospitals from 58 to 65.
