In a major fillip to tourism promotion in the district, the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) has launched a boating service in Kinnerasani reservoir in Palvancha mandal on Friday.

Parliamentary Secretary (Chief Minister’s Office) and Kothagudem MLA Jalagam Venkat Rao formally launched the boat service in the reservoir on Friday evening.

The move is expected to draw more number of tourists to the picturesque site, which is bounded by a vast deer park and nestled in the lap of nature.

Located in the vast Kinnerasani wildlife sanctuary limits, the reservoir caters to the water needs of the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS) at Palvancha.

It also meets the drinking water requirements of the residents of Palvancha and Kothagudem towns.

The Centre has already sanctioned Rs 3.23 crore to develop tourism infrastructure at Kinnerasani reservoir under an eco-tourism project.

Plans are afoot to introduce an eight-seater speed boat in the reservoir, reopen the cafeteria and renovate the defunct cottages at the dam site.

Talking to mediapersons after taking a ride on the new boat in the reservoir, Mr Venkat Rao mooted setting up of Lake Police outpost and provision of necessary amenities at the dam site.

The picturesque site endowed with nature’s bounty is an ideal spot for schoolchildren to explore scenic splendour and familiarise themselves with wildlife conservation.

The officials of the TSTDC, Forest, Revenue, Irrigation and several other departments were present.
