Demand for promised houses for poor and curb corruption: Laxman

The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold protests in all the municipalities on July 25 and 26 against the failure of the State government in construction of houses as promised while another day-long protest would be held on July 30 to expose the rampant corruption in the government.

State BJP president K. Laxman said at a press conference here that all those who have applied for houses earlier will participate while fresh applications will be given to the authorities to put pressure on the government to keep its promise.

While the Modi government had constructed over one crore houses Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao failed to construct even a few thousands of his much touted double bedroom houses, he said. “Even the houses constructed under Indiramma houses have not been allotted reflecting how this government had totally failed in the housing sector,” he claimed.

Rampant corruption

Mr. Lakshman alleged that corruption was reached new heights and nothing was moving in the municipalities and villages without paying money. The arrest of a woman revenue officer recently showcased how this government had failed totally in arresting corruption while the Chief Minister claims of it reducing, he said.

All these issues would be vigorously highlighted in the municipal election campaign, he said adding that the failures of TRS government will be exposed in the campaign that would be overseen by a committee of seniors including former MLAs and MPs.

Mr. Laxman alleged that the police has become a stooge of this government and it reflected in its functioning and targeting of people in support of the ruling party. The campaign would also focus on this.

The BJP president said that the party would contest all the wards and municipalities this time unlike the past, and there was a huge response from the cadre for party tickets. There is huge competition for tickets and that itself is an indication of BJP’s growth in Telangana.

Mr. Laxman questioned the urgency shown by the Chief Minister in advancing the Municipal elections and the way the new Act was framed without consultations with any groups or political parties. “The government itself submitted an affidavit in the Court seeking four months for preparation of voters list and division of wards but now it wants to complete the elections in one month. It shows the TRS is afraid of BJP’s growing popularity,” he said.

The TRS government, he said, did not release even a single rupee to any municipality in the last five years despite the Central government releasing funds under various schemes. “They don’t have money even to pay salaries and such is the sorry state of affairs in Telangana,” he said.

Claiming that there was a tremendous response for the membership drive of the party particularly from youngsters and women. Even minorities are joining the BJP as they believe only this party can bring them out of the clutches of the MIM, he said.
