Collector Neetu Prasad has instructed revenue authorities in the district to take appropriate measures for providing temporary accommodation to migrants who returned from earthquake-ravaged Nepal, in the Ramakrishna Colony of Thimmapur mandal.

Responding to a news item titled With no home on either side of the Himalayas published in these columns on Monday, the Collector instructed the authorities, including Karimnagar RDO Chandrashekhar Rao, to provide shelter to the migrants belonging to the Budaga Jangala community.

Expressing concern over their plight, she found fault with the revenue authorities for not providing temporary shelter in community halls and school buildings, which were vacant during the summer vacation.

Acting on Ms. Prasad’s instructions, the RDO directed Thimmapur tahsildar Komal Reddy to rush to Ramakrishna Colony.

Accordingly, the tahsildar visited the village and enquired with the migrants, who have been living under trees, about the sanction of Rs.1,000 and 50 kilograms of rice to each family.

He distributed Rs.1,000 each to 12 families and 50 kg rice to each family.

He also held consultations with sarpanch K Saraiah for the shifting of migrants to the Government Upper Primary School. On Monday evening, the migrants were shifted to the school building.
