Asaduddin Owaisi blasts BJP over NRC

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday claimed that the ‘myth of illegal migrants’ was ‘busted’ and the BJP should learn from the outcome of the National Register of Citizens in Assam.

Mr. Owaisi was speaking to the media at the party headquarters in Darussalam, where he criticised BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, for their statements on NRC.

“The Home Minister should clarify. Because Mr. Amit Shah gave a speech in which he said that there are 50 lakh ghuspethi (infiltrators). I want to know whether he still stands by his comments,” Mr. Owaisi said as he pointed out that the number stands at 19 lakh.

He urged the BJP to not indulge in seeking the NRC exercise across the country on Hindu-Muslim lines.

Mr. Owaisi hoped that the Foreigners’ Tribunal would be ‘judicious’ and not act in an ‘arbitrary manner’. He added that there are several people whose names are not there but parents’ names included in the list.
