AP petrol pumps call off stir, truckers continue

October 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Petrol retailers and petrol tanker operators called off their strike on Thursday evening after the State Government yielded no ground on their demand for a removal of value-added tax (VAT) on fuel.

However, truck operators are continuing their strike as per the nation-wide agitation launched by the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC).

The strikers’ joint action committee (JAC) comprising owners of trucks, petrol pumps and petrol tankers had launched an indefinite strike at midnight Wednesday demanding reduction in VAT and other levies.

It also supported the nation-wide strike demanding changes to the existing toll fee collection, besides scrapping installation of speed governors in trucks.
