Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has instructed the officials concerned to be fully geared to implement the “Rythu Bhima Scheme’’ (Farmers Life Insurance Scheme) that will come into force from the midnight of August 14.
The scheme would be formally launched on August 15, Independence Day. But if any farmer unfortunately dies after the midnight of August 14, his family should be given the insurance cover of ₹5 lakh within 10 days, he said. A special machinery should be in place for implementing of the action plan for handing over the cheque within the stipulated time.
Farmers’ coordination committee members and coordinators should play an active role in providing the details of deceased farmer to the Agriculture Extension officer.
The panchayat secretary should furnish the death certificate to the agriculture officer within 48 hours, he said. The AEO on gathering the information should forward it to the District Agriculture Officer who in turn send it to the LIC. “It is the responsibility of the Agriculture Department to see that the whole process is done smoothly with the support from the Panchayat Raj Department,” he said.
The Chief Minister was reviewing the Farmers Life Insurance Scheme with the Ministers Jagadeesh Reddy, Mahender Reddy and people’s representatives and officials from Agriculture, Panchayat Raj and Chief Minister’s Office at the Pragathi Bhavan here on Friday.
Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao described the Rythu Bhima Scheme as the largest insurance scheme in the world benefiting 28 lakh farmers with ₹ 636 crore premium and would give confidence to the families of farmer. The responsibility of reaching the insurance amount to the family of the deceased farmers would lie with the Agriculture Extension Officer and Panchayat Secretary. These two persons should work in close cooperation to ensure the eligible farmer’s family would get the cheque in time.
The Chief Minister explained in detail to the officers the phase-wise and stepwise activities to be taken up for handing over the Rythu Bhima insurance cheque as well as machinery required. Details of eligible farmers who were insured should be available in the computer of Agriculture Extension Officer.
Eligible farmers who have not yet registered their names should do so immediately so that the government will pay the premium amount, he said.
