Over five lakh pilgrims take a holy dip

Sri Laxminarasimha Swamy Devasthanam in Dharmapuri was flooded with a sea of humanity as over five lakh pilgrims took a holy dip in the Godavari on Friday.

With Friday being the auspicious day, the pilgrims swarmed the Dharmapuri temple since early morning for taking a holy dip in the river.

All roads in the district led to the Dharmapuri temple.

The parking lots were bursting at the seams with vehicles and the police had to identify other locations to facilitate devotees park their vehicles. At one point, there was a traffic jam of about 10 km with a sudden surge of pilgrims.

Though there was a sudden rise in the number of pilgrims, they could comfortably take a holy dip in the Pushkar ghats as they stretch over one km at Dharmapuri.

The police had taken precautions and had arranged for over 100 auto-rickshaws to take the pilgrims from the parking lot to the bathing ghats.

Meanwhile, Mahabubnagar MP Jitender Reddy and his family members took a holy dip in the river and offered prayers at the temple shrine. Chief Whip Koppula Eshwar, Collector Neetu Prasad, SP D. Joel Davis and others were also present.
