The Adivasi organisations, mainly the Adivasi Hakkula Porata Samiti or Tudum Debba, would observe September 17 as Kumram Bheem Vijayatosava Dinam at Indervelli mandal headquarters in Adilabad district. A public meeting has been organised at the local agriculture market yard in this connection which will also feature speeches on fielding an Adivasi candidate as an independent from Khanapur (ST) Assembly constituency.

Kumram Bheem was the legendary Adivasi leader who attained martyrdom fighting the Nizam’s armed forces in 1940 demanding rights on lands. “As his sacrifice signifies the struggle against the Nizam we will observe the day as Bheem’s victory day as it was on this day that the State of Hyderabad was liberated from the clutches of the Nizam,” said Kanaka Tukaram, a former ZPTC member.

Utnoor Division Police, however, on Sunday, cautioned Adivasi leaders on gathering people in a big way for the meeting the next day. DSP N. Venkatesh told the leaders that not to gather aboriginal people in a large number as permission would be given for fewer number of people to gather and it could inconvenience others in view of the weekly shandy.

The police officer also urged the Adivasi leaders not to opt for boycott of coming election. He told them that vote was a powerful tool and exercising it would bring them closer to their objective.
