Adivasis belonging to Adivasi Hakkula Porata Samithi, also known as Tudum Debba, and other organisations, on Friday staged a rasta roko in front of the district collectorate demanding removal of Lambada tribe from the list of Scheduled Tribes.

The protest was part of the phase termed ‘read the constitution and learn about the rights of Adivasis’ taking place across the district.

The Adivasis, around 300 of them who had gathered, submitted a memorandum to Collector D. Divya with the demand. They also demanded recruitment of Adivasis as vidya volunteers.

The Collector told them that vidya volunteers will report for duty from August 1. She said all meritorious Adivasis will be recruited as vidya volunteers.
