Adivasi men asked to shun gudumba

Adivasi women on Sunday asked the aboriginal men to shun illicitly distilled liquor. The men were asked to avoid going to Lambada tandas or villages where the IDL is brewed.

Consuming gudumba was telling on the health of Adivasis, the women opined. It also helped improve the economic conditions of Lambadas as they manufactured the brew mostly, women added.

Over 1,000 women from Raj Gond, Pardhan, Kolam and other ethnic tribes from all the four districts which had comprised undivided Adilabad attended a meeting at Utnoor’s Ghusadigutta.

“Women were in the forefront of the protests at tribal schools where Lambada teachers were not allowed to teach.

“It was decided that they should participate more actively in the movement and should not rest until the demand of removing Lambadas was achieved,” disclosed Kanaka Suguna, who was elected president of the steering committee at the women’s meeting.
