Heavy rain recorded across several districts in the State

The heavy downpour on Thursday evening threw life of out gear in Warangal city. The city has been witnessing rain during the evening since the past three days, and as a result many low lying colonies have been inundated. People in as many as 15 colonies were affected by sudden the downpour and water-logging.

The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) officials have been rehabilitating the residents of Indira Nagar and NTR Nagar colonies by providing temporary shelter at a private function hall on Hunter road. Mayor N. Narender urged officials to be alert and undertake rescue operations wherever required.

The district received an average rainfall of 50 mm on Tuesday and 20 mm on Wednesday. Heavy rainfall in excess of 10 cm was recorded at Jangaon, Station Ghanpur, Raghunathpalli, Palakurthi, Devarupppula, and Thorrur mandal.

Meanwhile, the Ramappa and Laknavaram lakes hit the full tank level. Many streams across the district were overflowing. Village revenue officer Md. Shabbir Ali, 30, was washed away at Gudur in Palakurthi while he was crossing the low-level bridge on Wednesday. At Mogullapalli, 19-year-old Satish disappeared in the Chalivagu while trying to cross the rivulet on Thursday. At Rayaparty village, power supply was interrupted since Tuesday and the entire village was plunged into darkness.

Many village tanks received good inflows, bringing a smile on the faces of the farmers who wished to harvest the water in the days to come. The Pedda Cheruvu in Velikatta village of Thorrur was overflowing after many a year of dry spell. The tanks in Nashkal and Station Ghanpur villages were also hit the full tank level.

Medak Staff Reporter adds: Heavy rain lashed Medak district on Thursday, continuing till late into the night. Rainfall was reported in Siddipet, Dubbak, Narayanakhed, and Andol, among others.

Low laying areas were inundated in several parts of the district. About 13 sheep were reportedly killed when lightning struck them at Komatibanda near Gajwel.

One person, K. Anand, 18, drowned at Sadashivapet on Thursday evening when he went to collect iron poles used to make Ganesh idols. Sadashivapet police registered a case and are investigating the matter.
