TU students to be part of rural development initiative: Collector

February 01, 2017 08:19 pm | Updated 08:20 pm IST - NIZAMABAD:

Collector Yogitha Rana on Wednesday called upon the students of Telangana University to be part of the rural development initiative of the State government. She said 100 villages in the district would be identified in the first phase to take the administrative machinery to the doorsteps of the beneficiaries.

Addressing the faculty and students at the university executive hall, the Collector said the objective of the rural development programme was to end the ordeal of the people who have to go to government offices to get benefits for which they were eligible. “Instead, the administrative machinery will go to the doorsteps of the people in villages and sanction the benefits under 30 to 35 schemes immediately,” she said.

Students of the university would be part of the programme and get associated with officials and report back to the administration on the process of the implementation of the initiative. “In 40 days, the entire district will be covered and all 400 villages will be declared as complete beneficiary villages,” Ms. Rana said.

Speaking about why she took such an initiative, the Collector said it was the plight of the people who had to make umpteen rounds to government offices with all sorts of petitions despite the Praja Vaani, the weekly grievance redressal programme, that made her come up with the idea of taking the administrators to go to people.

TU Vice-Chancellor P. Sambaiah said that it was a welcome initiative and a revolutionary step, adding that it was a right step towards Bangaru Telangana. He assured the Collector that there would be enthusiastic participation by the students and faculty of the university.

Registrar Y. Jaya Prakash Rao, and principals Athar Sulthana, Arathi, and Khyser also spoke.
