TSRTC to phase out deluxe category buses

January 03, 2017 12:36 am | Updated 12:36 am IST - WARANGAL URBAN:

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) would be phasing out the deluxe category buses from its fleet and replace them with mini air-conditioned buses.

As part of the plan, a total of 30 mini-AC buses would be introduced for the Warangal-Hyderabad route by Sankranti, replacing deluxe buses which are currently in operation, said T. Surya Kiran, regional manager, RTC Warangal region.

He said replacement of buses, which have completed their service life, was a continuous process. Currently, there was scope of replacing the deluxe category buses. However, buses falling under the Express, Super Luxury AC, Garuda, and Pallevelugu category would be replaced with new ones after their life cycle was over.

Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Kiran said that as many as 100 new Palle Velugu buses would be added to the fleet of RTC Warangal region in the next three months. Nearly 80 per cent of high-end buses like AC, Garduda, and Super Luxury would be replaced with new ones by January first week. Several new hired buses would also be added too. During the last three months, 14 Pallevelugu buses and three AC buses were already added to the fleet. On complaints of frequent breakdown of buses, he said they were operating buses that covered a distance of 10 to 13 lakh kilometres. Every bus would be thoroughly overhauled and fixed with new engine, axle, and body to make them fit again.

The fleet of RTC Warangal region has 970 buses, of which 930 buses would be operated daily and 40 buses would be kept on standby. Every day, the buses would cover a distance of 2.87 lakh kilometres transporting nearly nine lakh passengers.
