Telangana University Vice-Chancellor P. Sambaiah urged students to avail the opportunities coming their way by studying hard and treading the right path in life.

Participating as the chief guest at the ‘Bhog Bandar’ organised in connection with the 278th birth anniversary of Sant Sevalal Maharaj, the revered spiritual leader of the Banjara community, at the university here on Wednesday, professor Sambaiah said god only creates opportunities and not boons or curses. Coming up in life availing these opportunities was the right way to achieve success.

Students should continue their journey with commitment and dedication in the light of ideals set by Sant Sevalal. They should not blame anyone for their backwardness and misfortune and decide their own destiny.

Life should be seen with the right perspective.

Mankind should walk on the path of non-violence, affection, and service that was shown by Sant Sevalal, he said.

Former Registrar K. Sivashankar said the reforms for which Sant Sevalal fought for and his ideals would be ever cherished. Assistant professor Shantha Bai thanked the V-C for sanctioning the celebration of Sevalal jayanti. Banjara student leaders Santhose Nayak and Gadde Bhoomanna also spoke.

Earlier, Prof. P. Sambaiahpaid homage to the spiritual leader by garlanding his portrait. Sports and cultural competitions were organised for students. Principals Athar Sultana, Kaisar Mohammed, and Siva Kumar, and public relations officer K. Rajaram were also present.

Remembering the legacy

Meanwhile, Kamareddy district officials also celebrated the legacy of the leader. Government whip Gampa Govardhan, Collector N. Satyanarayana, and Superintendent of Police N. Swetha attended functions held at the Collectorate and the Raja Reddy function hall in the town.

The dignitaries paid homage to Sant Sevalal by garlanding his portrait at both the venues and remembering his reforms and services for the uplift of Banjaras. They said Sevalal Maharaj devoted his life to drive humanity in the right direction and sought to reform them with his spiritual messages.

Mr. Govardhan listed out the schemes and programmes introduced by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for the welfare of Banjaras and other communities.

Later, the officials performed a special pooja for Goddess Earth as part of the celebration.
