Calling attention: Policemen shifting E. Bal Reddy, a farmer who tried to end life by consuming pesticide at the Prajavani at Collectorate in Nizamabad on Monday:

A farmer of Kammarpally mandal headquarters tried to end his life by consuming pesticide at the Prajavani meeting here on Monday.

Charging the authorities with taking no action, despite several representations, to prevent other farmers digging a canal through his field to draw water from the Choutpally Hanmanth Reddy Lift Scheme, Eleti Bal Reddy, the farmer took the extreme step.

The district officials seated on a dais and receiving the complaints from the relief seekers were shocked by the act.

The policemen on duty at the spot shifted the farmer in a vehicle to the Government Hospital where he is reported to be out of danger.

Accompanied by his wife Shravanthi and co-petitioners Jadala Kishan and Koratikanti Ashamma Mr. Bal Reddy went to the Collectorate to submit a petition to the officials on their grievance that some greedy farmers had damaged their crops for digging a canal through their fields.

Requests to the officials to get it stopped, fell on the deaf ears, the farmers said.

Later, the district officials convinced the other petitioners in the case that they would look into their grievance and resolve it at the earliest.
