: Equipped with the orders, Nizamabad additional superintendent of police Pratap Reddy has started inquiry into the suicide of Kuknoorpally Sub-Inspector, T. Rama Krishna Reddy on Wednesday.

According to highly placed sources, Mr. Pratap Reddy summoned Siddipet Deputy Superintendent Sridhar, Circle Inspector Venkataiah and Ramanjaneyulu and two constables and is learnt to have grilled them for a few hours over the incident. The inquiry was conducted at Siddipet.

The officers were asked about the suicide note purportedly written by Mr Ramakrishna Reddy before taking the extreme step and the issues the victim had raised. He is understood to have inquired about the complaints received against the deceased. The inquiry is expected to continue for some more days as several issues were needed to be looked into. “We are questioning each and every one including writers in the case who worked with him. We will also quiz his family members as well,” Mr. Pratap Reddy told The Hindu .

It may be mentioned here that T.Ramakrishna Reddy, who was posted at Kuknoorpally police station in Medak district had committed suicide by shooting himself with the service revolver in the police quarters. In the suicide note, he had alleged harassment by his higher ups.

High-level corruption

Has the high-level corruption in the department led to the suicide of Ramakrishna Reddy? The purported suicide letter written by him points out that corruption was deep rooted in the department. Sources said huge amounts exchanged hands every month with officials at lower levels reportedly being forced to pay money to their higher ups. Those collecting the amount illegally and handed it over to Ramakrishna Reddy felt that they were being taken for a ride. Several petitions were filed against him and the inquiry was reportedly nearing completion.

“I am being harassed by DSP, Circle Inspector, two head constables and one constable. Even DIG is angry with me. DSP, CI, former CI Venkataiah, head constable Sayyad, head constable Mutyam and constable Yadav Reddy are responsible for my death. I had paid Rs. 15 lakh to the DSP in the past three months and to the circle inspector in the past eight months,” is what Ramakrishna Reddy wrote in the suicide note. He was also reportedly asked by higher officials to take care of Rs. 4 lakh expenditure incurred for the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Komatibanda for the inauguration of Mission Bhagiratha and other schemes.
