PIMS conducts free heart surgeries for children

The Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Nagunur on the outskirts of Karimnagar town, in collaboration with the Little Hearts Foundation, U.K., and the Prathima Foundation, has taken up the task of screening and conducting surgeries for children detected with congenital heart diseases.

The screening began on January 30 was completed on February 11. Out of 300 cases, doctors short-listed about 50 cases which would go in for surgery.

A team of doctors, lead by Venkataramana from Liverpool, U.K., were conducting surgeries on the children since Monday. Already, six surgeries were completed and another 15 would be conducted by February 18.

PIMS doctors Ch. Amith Kumar, K. Ravinder Reddy, L.S.R. Prasad, and M. Nikhil, and dean A. Vivekanand were coordinating the surgeries.
