Over one lakh saplings planted on a single day

July 11, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - IBRAHIMPUR (MEDAK DIST):

The residents of Ibrahimpur village in Siddipet mandal took up a unique initiative of planting one lakh saplings in a single day on Sunday.

The 40-acre community area on the outskirts of the village saw about 600 people waiting with saplings to plant. Continuous drizzle since morning failed to dampen their spirits.

Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao, Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy and Lok Sabha member K. Prabhakar Reddy formally flagged off the programme by planting saplings.

Addressing the villagers, Mr. Harish Rao said Ibrahimpur became a model for the entire State in planting saplings. He said about 1.05 lakh saplings were planted on Sunday and the remaining 1.05 lakh saplings would be planted before the end of the month.
