Elders of the Mesram clan of Raj Gonds on Sunday set out from Keslapur village for Sirikonda mandal headquarters to place order for the sacred pots that they require for performing various pujas during the Nagoba jatara.

Raj Gond Katoda or priest Mesram Hanmanth Rao and Pardhan priest or Patadi Mesram Tukdoji formed the two-member team which would visit Guggilla Swamy, the potter from Sirikonda on Monday. Swamy’s family has been making the sacred pots for the Mesram Raj Gonds for centuries.

The ritual of the two-member team placing the order has been as old as the relationship between the potter family and the Adivasis.

The Mesram elders held a meeting on Saturday evening to decide the dates of various activities which are to be performed before the Nagoba jatara commences on January 27. One of the major tasks is to get the pots and to fetch holy water from Godavari which will be used for purification of the temple of the serpent god.
