Litterateurs unhappy over division of Warangal

WARANGAL: Litterateurs are resenting the State Government’s decision to carve out a separate district dividing Warangal.

Raising serious objection, eminent litterateur Acharya Kovela Suprasannacharya said that he was finding it difficult to conjure up the image of new Hanamkonda district without Warangal. They are indivisible parts of a place that has great history.

Documenting history

Eminent people like Dupati Venkatarama Charyulu sacrificed a lot to document the history of Kakatiya kings. “He staked his life entering and documenting an inscription found at Kazipet Dargah during the Nizam rule. There is another inscription on Dharmasagar tank about Kakatiya kings. If all these places are separated in the name of creating new districts, who can stake claim to their legacy? The very identity is gone,” he opined.

Prof. Suprasanna Charya appealed to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to withdraw the alleged ‘anti-culture and anti-history’ decision. The centre of Telangana State is Kakatiya culture which should never be disturbed, he said.

Hanamkonda as capital

Retired Telugu professor Hari Siva Kumar said that Prola dynasty ruled this place with Hanamkonda as capital and Warangal as its part. When Kakatiya rulers succeeded, they made Warangal as capital and Hanamkonda its part.

“If we divide this place into different districts within this small radius, how can we residents claim our heritage and legacy? This place has over 1,000-year history. How can anyone play with its identity?,” he sought to know.

Retired English professor Parcha Kodandarama Rao said that it is difficult to imagine Warangal without Hanamkonda and vice-versa and he finds the decision of the State Government unwise.

Round-table by Lok Satta

“We on behalf of Lok Satta will organize a round-table on Hanamkonda district creation issue at Andhra Bhasha Nilayam inviting people from all sections of the society,” he said.

Kakatiya University English department head K. Damodar Rao said it was unfortunate that the Government came up with the idea of dividing Warangal. “I hope the Chief Minister will take into consideration the sentiments of people before the draft is published,” he said.
