Jagjivanram statue unveiled

Dalits should come forward and make use of constitutional provisions for them to come out of poverty, said MLA D. Vinay Bhaskar.

Unveiling the statue of Dr. Babu Jagjivanram at Babu Camp Colony, at Kazipet here on Wednesday, he said that despite reservations in education and employment and other welfare measures aimed at uplifting of dalits, the community was still languishing in poverty.

Mr. Vinay Bhaskar lauded the efforts of Mr. M. Jitendher who got the statute erected with his personal fund to perpetuate the life and works of Babu Jagjivanram. Earlier, in 2012, he also installed Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue in the same colony.

The MLA said that Mr. Jitendher has been distributing books and study material in rural schools for the past many years and scores of children benefitted from his gesture. He wanted the services to be continued further to benefit larger section of the society.
