HYDERABAD: The Government has cancelled the holidays of engineers, officials and other staff of Telangana Irrigation Department in view of the threat of breaching of tanks and reservoirs due to ongoing rains. Reviewing the rain situation and danger to irrigation sources from New Delhi, Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao asked the chief engineers and superintending engineers of various projects to ensure that the staff were stationed in headquarters of their respective units, ready with sand laden bags, to meet breaches to tanks. The department should be alert to the situation and work in coordination with the revenue officials by recording rainfall on an hourly basis.

He warned that any untoward incident would not be tolerated. The irrigation officials should tip off Collectors and other higher officials in emergencies.
