KARIMNAGAR: Expressing concern over the Karimnagar Police Commissionerate officials harassing innocent people and arresting them in the name of drunken driving, former Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar blamed the State Government for opening more wine shops and bars to increase revenue.

If the Government was committed to the welfare of the people, it should impose Prohibition in the State, he said.

Illegal sand mining

Alleging large-scale irregularities in sand quarry operations at the Kodurupaka village of Boinpalli mandal in Rajanna-Sircilla district, Mr Prabhakar demanded that the Government provide sand free of cost as being done in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

He also demanded a thorough inquiry into the irregularities committed by the sand quarry contractors at Kodurupaka village. The contractors were causing a loss to the exchequer by transporting three to four truck-loads of sand with one bill. Further, the Karimnagar District Lorry Owners Association members have complained that the contractors were fleecing truck operators by collecting huge amount from them, he added.
