The Nagoba jatara came alive on Sunday when the bullock cart race was held here after a lapse of three decades.

As many as 16 rengi carts used as personal transport in the countryside competed in the race attracting huge crowds of Adivasis visiting the jatara.

Coming in the backdrop of the Jallikattu controversy, the event evoked much interest among those who witnessed the race. The rengi race, however, is not looked at as harassment of animals.

The bullock cart race was held as part of revival of traditional sports and games of the Adivasis in Adilabad and neighbouring districts at the jatara.

The initiative to revive old forms of sports was taken by Mancherial Collector R.V. Karnan, who is also the In-Charge Project Officer of Utnoor, Integrated Tribal Development Agency.

The participation of fewer number of rengis in the competition revealed the changing time.

The practice of owning a rengi is definitely on the wane given the time it takes and expenses to maintain the cart and the bullocks.

Other traditional games such as puli-meka , tokkudu billa , gilli danda etc were also a huge draw. Good number of people flocked to the games arena, as huge crowds turned up for the religious event on the weekend.
