85 buildings to house govt. offices

A report has been submitted to the high-level committee constituted to identify locations and buildings - Housing department official.

The Krishna administration has completed the identification of residential and commercial buildings in Vijayawada and its surroundings for housing government offices.

Of the total 85 buildings, more than 45 are ready to be occupied, while the remaining require minor changes for setting up the offices. As part of its efforts to expedite the durbar move, officials from Housing and Road & Buildings Departments scouted for commercial and residential premises in the main routes connecting Kankipadu, Ibrahimpatnam, Vijayawada Urban and Gannavaram.

Four high-rises at the Benz Circle and one on the M.G. Road are also included in the list, according to officials. They said that these building were identified after the government issued a notification requesting the owners to contact officials for letting out their premises for government offices that would shifted from Hyderabad shortly.

“We have taken into account various parameters such as the distance of the building from Chief Minister’s camp office, road connectivity and amenities available for employees during the identification drive,” said a senior official. Details of the building owners, plinth area, parking facilities and number of floors, year of building construction were also considered while finalising the list.

The official said the owners were charging rent ranging between Rs.10 to Rs.50 per sft depending on the location and amenities available on their premises.

A report has already been submitted to the high-level committee constituted to identify locations and buildings, headed by Panchayat Raj Secretary K. S. Jawahar Reddy. Another official said the government would take a decision on finalising the buildings after assessing the requirements. Medha Towers near Gannavaram airport, office of the SP on M.G. Road and a few marriage halls are also under serious consideration.
