Uddanam region in this district has 70 per cent of the patients suffering from various kidney-related ailments in the State, Minister for Medical and Health Kamineni Srinivasa Rao has said, adding that that the government will take steps on a war footing to provide quick relief to the patients.
Inaugurating a dialysis unit set up by Trimex Sands Private Limited in the Tekkali area hospital here on Friday, the Minister said that it was pathetic to find thousands of kidney patients in Uddanam region comprising Kaviti, Sompeta, Kanchili, Itchapuram and Palasa.
“Around 25,000 people are suffering from various kidney-related alone in Uddanam region only,” he pointed out.
The Hindu highlighted the non-functioning of the unit for the lack of doctors and medical staff in its columns on September 17, 2015. With the district administration brining the issue to the notice of Labour Minister K. Atchannaidu, the latter spoke to his health portfolio counterpart to find a solution to it.
Mr. Atchannaidu urged Mr. Srinivas to find out a permanent solution to curb the spurt in kidney-related cases.
