5 traffickers held, seven girls rescued

Police conduct cordon and search in Yadagirgutta

The Rachakonda police on Saturday said it has arrested five traffickers and rescued seven girl children from brothel houses in Yadagirigutta.

As part of the ongoing drive against alleged prostitution and exploitation of children for sex in Yadagirgutta, the police here has been conducting cordon and search operations.

And based on a tip off, on Friday afternoon, it raided some houses and arrested five women.

Seven girls have been transferred to a rescue centre, Rachakonda Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said in a release here on Saturday.

Professional mediator

All the arrested carried the same surname. They were identified as Ramya, Kalamma, Bhagya, Neela and Durgamma.

“The girls were procured from various places through a professional mediator — Kamsani Shankar — by paying ₹ 30,000 to ₹ 60,000 for each girl,” the police statement said.

Further, providing the alleged traffickers employment and counselling did not help mend their ways, the statement added.

Preventive detention

So far, the police said it has arrested 24 persons, with three in preventive detention, in connection with trafficking and organisation of brothel houses.

All of them are booked under multiple sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), the IPC and the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, 1956.

Seven houses were seized and more houses would be sealed after proper procedures, the statement said.

The police claim that in the raids that started on July 30 in B.C. Colony here they have so far rescued 24 girls.
