The government has taken up works such as development of 1,614 km length of roads under the purview of the Roads & Buildings Department, construction of bridges at 26 sites and the second phase of road development works in the Left-wing extremism affected areas in the district at an estimated cost of Rs.1,924 crore.
Of this, work on development of 30 roads to an extent of 300 km has been completed at an estimated expenditure of Rs.40 crore. The remaining works are under different stages of progress, said Roads & Buildings Minister T. Nageshwara Rao.
He was speaking at the first anniversary ceremony of the Telangana Formation Day after hoisting the national flag at the police parade grounds here on Tuesday.
As many as 24 important single lane roads of 301-km length would be converted into double lane roads with an outlay of Rs.411 crore. The Panchayat Raj Department has initiated a total of 1,265 road development works, including several bridge construction works at an estimated cost of Rs. 451 crore in the district during 2014-15.
Of this, as many as 233 works have been completed so far. The State government has approved proposals worth Rs. 4,075 crore sent for the water grid scheme (Telangana drinking water project) to supply protected drinking water to every household in the district in the next four years.
The project envisaging three sub-grids will draw water from the Godavari and Kinnerasani rivers besides, Palair and Wyra reservoirs, the Minister said.
As many as 49 persons those who participated in the separate Telangana movement in 1969 were honoured on the occasion.
Collector K. Ilambarithi, Superintendent of Police Shahnawaz Qasim and others were present.
