In a gruesome incident, a 14-year-old girl allegedly raped by two youths on Saturday evening was found dead in her house in the early hours of Sunday.
According to the police, the girl studying in ninth class at Kothur government school lived with her grandmother at Sammaiah Nagar under KUC police station limits.
One of her acquaintances picked her up from home on Saturday afternoon and took her to Pembarthy village on Kamalapur road. There he and his friend allegedly violated her and later dropped her home in the late hours of Saturday. The girl narrated the ordeal to her grandmother and relatives.
The police said when her grandmother went out on Sunday morning, the victim hanged herself to death. The police shifted her body to the MGM Hospital for autopsy.
Following a complaint by relatives, the police registered a case.
City Police Commissioner V Ravinder said they had clues and the accused were identified as Prasanna Kumar (16) and Tirupathi (20) – they belonged to Pembarthy village near Kamalapur. “We formed special teams to arrest the accused,” he said.
