The rural police arrested a 23-year-old man of Edappadi on charges of raping a minor girl here recently. The police said that R. Ramkumar, a mechanic, lured the 17-year-old girl into marrying him and took her to Tiruvannamalai.
The girl’s mother lodged a complaint with the Edappadi police. Based on a tip-off, the police located them in Tiruvannamalai and rescued the girl. A medical examination performed on the girl confirmed rape. Ramkumar was arrested and lodged in the prison.
Couple electrocuted
A couple was electrocuted at their meat shop in Ammapet here on Monday. Cithuraj (57) of Udayapatti was running a meat shop in Ammapet. His wife Munimadu (46) helped him in the shop. While operating a chicken feather cleaning machine, she was electrocuted. Cithuraj, who tried to save her, was also electrocuted. Ammapet police recovered the bodies and sent it to Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
