June 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - DINDIGUL:

Awareness rallies and planting of saplings marked the World Environment Day celebrations here on Friday. Hundreds of schoolchildren and National Green Crops members took out an awareness rally in Dindigul to create awareness on protection of environment and importance of trees.

Flagged off by Collector T.N. Hariharan, the rally started at the Collector’s camp office and ended at Government Girls Higher Secondary School after passing through prime roads in the town. Fifteen members of NGC were honoured with mementoes and certificates on this day. In Kodaikanal, members of 12th Ward Residents Welfare Association along with members of Lions Club of Kodaikanal planted trees in the 12th ward to mark the occasion. Association head T.P. Ravindran said that the plants planted during previous years have been maintained well by the residents. “Our aim was to make our ward clean and green,” he added.
