Workshop held

A workshop on capacity building of local bodies under the Hogenakkal water supply and fluorosis mitigation project was organised here under the aegis of the Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage Board on Wednesday.

The workshop organised with the participation of Japanese International Cooperation Agency sought to address the third component of the multi-billion dollar water supply project that involves capacity building of local bodies to ensure last mile delivery. The project was conceived to provide safe drinking water to three municipalities, 17 town panchayats and 7,716 habitations in 18 panchayats unions of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri. As of date, 120 mld is being supplied to three municipalities, 17 town panchayats, and 6,550 rural habitations. Capacity building of local bodies is being implemented through a consultant. Experts from various States and JICA shared experiences in capacity building and their recommendations would be r included in the plan. The District Collectors of Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri, respectively T.P. Rajesh, and K. Vivekanandan; Managing Director of TWAD Board Vijayarajkumar; Subroto Talukdar, Lead Specialist, JICA; and Takahiro Suzuki, representative of JICA participated.
