Tirunelveli Town police are on the lookout for two brothers who allegedly murdered their cousin, a construction worker, on Monday night.

Police said M. Kalimuthu (25), a construction worker from Kottaiyadi in Tirunelveli Town did not return home after he went out on Monday night. Though the family members were searching for him, they could not locate Kalimuthu.

Against this backdrop, Kalimuthu’s body was found lying in a farm on the Tirunelveli Town – Ramaiyanpatti Road with multiple cut injuries on Tuesday morning. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli Town, C.P. Kandasamy, rushed to the spot with his team and sent the body to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

During investigation, police found that Kalimuthu was running a limestone powder manufacturing unit in Tirunelveli Town along with his cousins Sudalaimani and his brother Murugan. When there was a disagreement between Kalimuthu and the brothers over sharing the income, Kalimuthu and Sudalaimani – Murugan brothers filed separate complaints with Tirunelveli Town police. Though the issue was settled by the police, Sudalaimani and Murugan planned to murder Kalimuthu.

When Kalimuthu came out of his house on Monday night, Sudalaimani and Murugan took him to consume liquor in a secluded place on the Tirunelveli Town – Ramaiyanpatti Road. When they were consuming liquor, Sudalaimani – Murugan duo hacked Kalimuthu to death and escaped, the police said.

A special police team has been formed to nab the brothers.
