The release of a ten-point oath, and special awards to student blood donors marked the birth anniversary observance of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at the Nesakarangal Home in Hasthampatti in the city on Sunday.

V. Ponraj, scientist and scientific advisor to late Abdul Kalam, was the chief guest. He released the ten-point oath of late President.

The event was brought up jointly by Salem Consumer Voice, and the Rotary Club of Salem.

Mr. Ponraj said that Kalam succeeded in all his endeavours because of hard work, self-confidence, and total commitment from his very young days.

Anyone who can attain these qualities can become great persons.

The country needed not mere engineers, doctors, or scientists but experts in these fields, for which the younger generation should work hard with total commitment.

He urged the student community to set goals and leave no stone unturned for achieving the same.

S. Sellathurai, president of the Nesakarangal, presided. J. M. Boopathi, president, Salem Consumer Voice, S. Sankar, its secretary, K. Boopathi, president of the Rotary Club of Salem and others offered felicitations.

Mr. Ponraj honoured the students who donated blood at a recent voluntary blood donation camp. Earlier, all the participants paid floral tributes to the portrait of late Kalam and also took oath.

The Young Indians (Yi), an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), organised The Young Indians Youth Dialogue – “Visioning for India” on the occasion at Royal Park School. K. Saravana Kumar, chair, branding and marketing, Yi Salem Chapter, among others spoke.
